THREE DISTINCTIVE SUITES
This is a house with lots of fun,
with lots of friends and lots of love.
AVA – AGE 6 – GRANDDAUGHTER
1) The Log-Accented Suite, FLOWER GIRL, is reached via a hand-crafted log stairway. On entering through the door of the Master Room (to the right at top of stairs) guests are greeted by many pleasant and friendly amenities - an airjet bathtub in the private full bath, beautiful furnishings (queen pillowtop bed), all vaulted ceilings, satellite hd tv/dvd/vcr, wireless internet, microwave over a small fridge, coffee pot, toaster, cove heat and AC. In addition to comfortable seating in the Master Room, this suite has a front sitting area (to the left at top of stairs), which incorporates in the mix a log loft Bear Den (bunk) padded by plush brown carpet and equipped for sleepy kids to enjoy indoor camping. A little Bear Den is beneath the big Bear Den, and these together have been heartily enjoyed by up to three small children. Provided are fleece sleeping bags, comforters and pillows. (Older children or adventurous adults may request an air mattress.) This space is cooled by a nature-themed ceiling fan. The peaked windows in the photo (above) are viewing windows in the sitting area . . . near the Bear Den.

2) The ground level Knotty Pine Cabin-Style Suite, CHESSIE LEE'S PEAS, has a private full bath, a second vanity outside the bath, warming bay view pellet stove, a queen pillowtop master bed made of local ponderosa pine (rough-sawn vertical beams and a knotty headboard), as well as a cozy Nook with a southern cypress twin bed, handy for at least one little sleepyhead, or an adult (same party with primary). Other amenities include wireless internet, satellite hd tv/dvd/vcr; small fridge, microwave, coffee pot and toaster in the kitchenette; cove heat and AC, plus a ceiling fan, comfortable loveseat, and a personal outside entrance (at the front of the house) as well as a service entry within the house. On entering this suite, the Nook is on the right, while chairs and a table are on the left; overhead, the ceiling fan is suspended from a vault in the ceiling which leads up to the Tree House Loft. The Loft is an optional space which can sleep two people on a full-size pillowtop bed, and includes a half bath. This allows Chessie Lees Peas to accommodate up to five guests of one party. (Camp-style arrangements could be made for a sixth person, if needed.)
For the first time in years
I was unable to spend Mothers Day with my Mom.
So, we chose to take a little vacation together.
My sister and I brought her here
for (all) our first bed and breakfast experience
and it could not have been more wonderful.
The setting is beautiful - Close to town, but seeming miles away.
The room (Chessie Lees Peas) was a treat for the senses;
smelling of wood and seeing the fire dance before our eyes.
The food is fantastic, the hospitality
by far the best I have ever experienced.
Thank you so much for helping to make this
the most special Mothers Day Celebration yet.
I will be hard pressed to match it next year.

3) The ground level Knotty Pine Cabin-Style Suite, PRAIRIE HOMESTEAD, features amenities including a 4' shower with two jets for the lower back in the private bath; a queen pillowtop bed; small fridge, microwave, coffee pot, toaster and blender in the kitchenette; wireless internet, hd tv/dvd/vcr, cove heat and AC, plus a ceiling fan; a comfortable loveseat; a personal outside entrance (at the rear of the house, onto a private deck, with a charcoal grill) as well as a service entry within the house; and a twin bed in a Nook which also has a small sleeping loft (bunk) above the twin bed. The little bunk has the nostalgia of being dubbed a hayloft. It is 5'4" long and is a delight for small children as a sleeping space. Prairie Homestead bears some resemblance to Chessie Lee's Peas in that it is nearly all wrapped with knotty pine, but many aspects are reminiscent of homestead life on the prairie. One may find the rising sun, the moon and the big dipper in this popular room. The large round copper sink embossed with vining wild flowers rests atop a hand-crafted vanity!

ALL THREE SUITES
. . . are uniquely separate from each other. Chessie Lee's Peas and Prairie Homestead, as mentioned above, have private outside entry doors. Each cabin suite also has a service entry door (into a hallway within the house) which locks on both sides, assuring your privacy. Flower Girl has a semi-private outside entrance, in the main level foyer and up the log stairway to the suite.
In all three suites, some little touches are left unphotographed, for you to enjoy when you arrive. Also, now and then, small changes may be made, unannounced . . . because the Antiques Shop likes to be involved, too!
The following two photos (on this page) represent Flower Girl's log loft Bear Den, about which one young boy stated emphatically to his father:
Dad, if we ever build another house,
I would like you to build my room to look just like this,
I mean JUST like this!
Thank you!! Our family had a great stay. You are gracious hosts and your B&B is beautiful. The food was incredible. The kids loved the loft, the juice and getting to know you. We also appreciated all the advice about the area and things to do. Best wishes -Nebraska
The following testimonial was written in German:
Much thanks for the camp place stay. We slept (wonderful) (restful) so deep. It was very difficult for us to get up. Greeting, out of the Swiss -Switzerland
Many thanks for your warm hospitality, scrumptious breakfasts and genuine friendliness. You embody the spirit of B&B proprietor, offering many tips and interesting conversation. We wish you best of luck and hope to return to Hill City so we can experience more of your comfort and the splendor of the Black Hills. -Long Beach, CA
This was our first time staying at a Bed & Breakfast, and we thought it was great! The room looked like it was out of a magazine and your hospitality was warm and friendly. We really enjoyed our stay in SD. And finding the Lefton Angel Bank at your gift shop was a thrill. We would really like to stay here again someday. Thanks again for everything! -MN
Thank you so much for the hospitality. The kids were calling it home. -South Dakota
The perfect home to come home to after a ride on the Mickelson Trail. You are both warm and wonderful and we will tell everyone about you! Thank you so very much. -Golden, CO
Thank you for such a memorable stay. Your hospitality is second to none! We wish you and the Smiling Bear great continued success! Sincerely -Chicago, IL
What a wonderful stay I have had. From the moment I stepped out of my car after a 10 hour drive - you were warm and welcoming and I felt right at home. My room was cozy and had nice amenities - like the organic bathroom goodies. The breakfasts were outstanding - they filled me up for most of the day; I felt that the coffee drinks were a special added treat. Your advice was also perfect - and helped me to get a wonderful taste of the Black Hills and the desire to come back and see more. Thanks for a memorable adventure! -Boulder Creek, CA - Cape Cod, MA
Do not wait
until some deed of greatness
you may do;
Do not wait
to shed your light afar.
To the many duties ever near
you now be true.
Brighten the corner
where you are.
